This is the term used in the official guidance: the translator must confirm that the translation is complete and accurate, and attach a signed statement (Certificate of Accuracy) giving their name, qualifications, signature, date, and contact details.
"Certified" in the UK sense is not a notary's stamp or a government seal. It is precisely that signed statement from the translator. Notarisation in Ukraine does not give a translation the status of "certified" as the Home Office understands it.
There is no system of sworn translators in the UK. Documented qualifications are sufficient — membership of professional associations such as ITI or CIOL is significant but not formally compulsory.
The entire document is translated — including stamps, seals, marginal notes, the date of issue, the document number, and the details of the issuing authority. Partial translations are not accepted by the Home Office.
Apostille: Ukraine is a member of the Hague Convention. The Home Office does not require an apostille for a certified translation. If your solicitor or institution is asking for an apostille, that is their separate requirement, not the Home Office standard.

Most Ukrainians in the UK are here under Homes for Ukraine or the Ukraine Family Scheme. Those remaining and applying for Spouse Visa or Settlement require certified translations for UKVI. Below is a typical list.
To apply and to extend your stay in the UK under the Ukraine support schemes, certified translations of key documents are required — particularly for children and when changing sponsor.
For UCAS, ENIC (qualification recognition), and university foundation programmes, certified translations of education documents are required.
Yes. For the Home Office, UCAS, banks, and most institutions in the UK, documents in Ukrainian require a certified translation into English. Even if a document contains a Latin transliteration (as in an international passport), this does not substitute for a certified translation.
It depends on the procedure. Usually one proof of identity is sufficient. For a UKVI Spouse Visa, an international passport translation is generally requested. For some banks and letting agents, both may be requested. Confirm the specific requirement and we will advise what to translate.
For children who arrived with you under Homes for Ukraine, a certified translation of the birth certificate is usually required, and if the child arrived without one parent, custody documents or consent from the other parent. If the child travelled with another relative, speak with a solicitor about the required package.
We translate both language versions if they appear in the document. In the Certificate of Accuracy we note that the document is in two languages — Ukrainian and Russian. This is the standard approach for transitional-period documents from 1991–2000.
For most UK visas, a military service record book is not a required document. It may be needed as additional proof of identity or for asylum (if your case involves matters relating to military service). If your solicitor or UKVI has requested it, we translate it in full, including all pages.
For extending Permission to Stay under Ukraine schemes, the typical package is: international passport, children's birth certificates (if applicable), proof of address (if changed). The exact list depends on your specific case — confirm with your solicitor or directly with the Home Office.
If you are making a joint application or a family member is acting as sponsor for another, yes, their documents may also be required. For changing sponsor or re-registering under Homes for Ukraine, documents from both parties are often needed. For Spouse Visa, the usual certified translations are: international passport, marriage certificate, children's birth certificates (if applicable), sometimes a criminal record certificate. If the marriage took place abroad or there are additional circumstances, the package may be larger. Your solicitor will compile the final list; we will translate.
