Asia-Plus article (Russian, 12 February 2025) reports on Tajikistan’s results in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International. The article reports the CPI covers 180 countries on a 0–100 scale (below 50 = highly corrupt). Tajikistan scored 19 (-1 from prior year), ranking 164 of 180. Other Central Asian scores reported: Kazakhstan 40 (88), Kyrgyzstan 25 (146), Turkmenistan 17 (165), Uzbekistan 32 (121); Russia 22 (154). The article cites the CPI authors’ statement that the Eastern Europe and Central Asia regional average is 35/100 and quotes them linking weak institutions, instability and external pressure to corruption. It also reports the authors’ lowest-scoring countries (South Sudan 8, Somalia 9, Venezuela 10) and highest (Denmark 90, Finland 88, Singapore 84), and reports the authors’ arguments linking corruption to climate change.
