Asia Plus: Beginning of seizure of assets of prominent figures

The report states that on 18 April 2025, Asia-Plus (citing Radio Ozodi) reported Tajik authorities had begun seizing the assets of prominent figures imprisoned on charges of attempting a coup. The report states relatives said representatives of the Enforcement Service had warned them to vacate their homes after the court ruling became legally binding. The report states the paternal home of Saidjafar Usmonzoda, former chairman of the Democratic Party, in Farkhor district had been seized, although relatives stated his Dushanbe residence was registered under his wife’s name. The report states Shokirjon Hakimov was excluded from seizure as his apartment was the family’s only shelter. The report states a group had been sentenced in February to between 8 and 27 years for “treason” and “attempted coup,” and on 2 April the Supreme Court upheld the verdicts.
